1860 Whitworth .451 Military Target Rifle in 13th December Medal Auction

A rare Whitworth .451 Military Target Rifle is offered in our 13th December 2017 medal and militaria auction with an estimate of £1,500.

 

 

Part 2 of a gentleman’s firearms collection includes a rare 1860 Whitworth .451 percussion cap Military Target rifle, lockplate engraved Whitworth 1860 and with company logo, safety catch in front of hammer, top of barrel marked Whitworth Patent, various proof markings, chequerboard hand grips, folding rear sight calibrated up to 1000 yards, trap door to right side of butt, fitted with leather sling, trigger mechanism in working order, good very fine. At the 1st NRA Meeting in 1860 at Wimbledon, Queen Victoria fired the first shot from a similar rifle. This rifle is an obsolete calibre and a licence is not required to own it.
