Warwick and Warwick’s Toys, Postcards and Cigarette Cards Auction.

The cigarette card section started fantastically with lot 1, estimated at £575, and a mixed collection, sold for £925. An album of Ogdens, lot 27, sold for £170, with an estimate of £100. Lot 34 contained Kensitas silk flowers, which sold for £180 and had an estimate of £150.

       

Moving on to the postcard section of the action, we saw many lots achieve their estimate and higher with lot 39, a UK assortment selling for £1,100, with an estimate of £800. Lot 40 included Gloucester docks and London Life series 'Arrest of a Militant Suffragette' and motor roller photo W.R.H. Oxford.

       

Lot 66 featured WWI English prisoners at Ostend, burial of Germans at Ostend and parades. WWI Civilian martyrs, soldier portraits and Coventry gun. RP railwaymen on station, funeral of Colonel Cody, comic 'Are you a Mason' plus processions and events. This lot had an estimate of £150 and sold for £180.

       

Lot 87, a Derbyshire/ Staffordhsire lot had an estimate of £180 and sold for £360. A Lancashire lot sold as expected at £480 with an estimate of £400. Lot 92, an Oxforshire-themed lot, sold very well at £490 and had an estimate of £200.

Our miscellaneous section saw onbe star with lot 174 selling for a fantastic £380 with an estimate of £20! The lot contained some very interesting newspapers, 1912-13 Daily Mirror collection in large binders, including issues detailing the Titanic Disaster (11), Capt. Scott issues (6) and 1913, (25 Feb) 'Are the Pankhurst's a Public Nuisance?', plus bound book 'Etchings of John Hamilton Mortimer R.A. 1778'.

       

We had a fantastic sale of lot 189, a range of Highways Road System sets and track, estimated at £180 and selling for a whopping £1,300.

The die cast section flew away with lot 229 being a model aircraft lot, featuring Corgi Aviation Archive selling for a brilliant £1,240 and had an estimate of £229. The named section did not disappoint with lot 292 CMC M-084 1957 Fiat RN2 Bartoletti Ferrari Transporter selling for £1,150 and had an estimate of £500.

       

Lot 311 was a Corgi. 'CHIPPERFIELDS' Poodle Truck No. 511 and sold for its estimate of £110.

Many of the mixed Dinky lots sold very well with lot 317 estimated at £500 selling for £700. Lot 319 sold for £500 with an estimate of £460 and lot 321 sold for its an estimate of £380.

       

Lot 345 a Dinky 513 Guy Flat Truck with Tailboard, 1st cab type, grey cab and flatbed, black chassis, wings and hubs sold for £120 and had an estimate of £100. Lot 348 Dinky a Vega Major luxury coach purple side, blue interior No 952 sold for £110 and had an estimate of £100.

       

Lot 358 Shackleton Foden FG 6-wheel Platform Lorry (blue body with red wings, grey chassis and fuel tanks) in blue/yellow box and Dyson 8-ton Drawbar Trailer (blue body with red wings, grey chassis) in red/yellow box sold for its estimate of £300.

The last lot of the die-cast section, lot 369 included Western Models with No. WMS 9 1933 Campbell - Rolls Royce, WMS 15 1929 Golden Arrow, WMS 19 Mercedes C111/3, WMS 23 1927 Sunbeam, WMS 25 Railton record car, WMS 30 1938 Thunderbolt, WMS 38 1939 MG EX135, WMS 42 Bluebird record car, WMS 47 1936 Speed of the wind, WRK 28X 1955 Jaguar D-Type. This lot sold for a fantastic £525 and had an estimate of £250.

Our model railways section started well with lot 377, a Hornby Live steam OO gauge 'Mallard Live Steam Train Set' No. R1041, with LNER Class A4 4-6-2 LNER 4468 'Mallard' blue locomotive and tender, track, instructions, tools, controller, transformer, DVD etc selling for £270 and had an estimate of £250. Lot 383 a Hornby O gauge mixed collection sold for a brilliant £575 and had an estimate of £250.

       

The kit built items we had throughout the sale sold as expected with lot 393, an O gauge tank black 4MT 80034 2-6-4 built and signed ' E. Saunders', ' D. Temple 1/01' generally excellent sold for its estimate of £300. Lot 394, an O gauge tank black 82029 2-6-2 built and signed ' E. Saunders', ' David Temple January 2000' generally excellent to mint sold for £260 and had an estimate of £250.

       

Moving on to the N gauge section of the sale, which is always popular among our buyers, we saw many mixed lots sell well. Lot 396 sold for its estimate of £550. Lot 398 had an estimate of £400 and sold for £925. Lot 401 sold for a brilliant £800 and had an estimate of £250. Lot 406 was a Dapol. N gauge collection of wagons and sold for a fantastic £775 and had an estimate of £360. Lot 407 included Fleischmann and had an estimate of £750 and sold for £925.

We had some EM gauge that sold very well with lot 434 selling for £800 and had an estimate of £525, lot 435 had an estimate of £450 and sold for £850 and lot 436 sold for £725 and had an estimate of £400. Lot 437 was a range of EM/OO gauge white metal kits with some plastic wagons built to a very high standard with locomotives (5), tender (4), coaches (8), wagons (7) plus P.D.K Bulleid Orignal Merchant Navy Series 2&3 unbuilt white metal kit. This lot sold for £1,150 and had an estimate of £350.

Our OO gauge section always sell well and it is not just individual locomotives that are sought after, the mixed lots sell very well also. Lot 438 had an estimate of £2,300 and sold for £4,200 and lot 439 had an estimate of £1,750 and sold for £4,500.

Bachmann always receives great bids and this sale’s mixed lots were no exception with lot 488, a collection of coaches sold for £490 and had an estimate of £300. Lot 489 was a collection of DCC ready OO gauge locomotives with steam with tender Beachy Head 32424 4-4-2 No 31921, 4P/F 75074 4-6-0 No 31117DC, 31579 0-6-0 No 31465, tanks (3). This lot had an estimate of £280 and sold for £410. Lot 493 followed suit with another collection of DCC ready with 4 CEP- EMU and 2 EPB- EMU selling for £410, with an estimate of £180.

       

Towards the end of the sale lot 560, a Kit Built O gauge tank black 2 84028 2-6-2 sold for £260 and had an estimate of £250.

Overall, the first Toys, Postcards and Cigarette Cards sale of the year was very successful and we had a range of different lots on offer to attract buyers. We look forward to the year ahead and welcoming back our buyers next time for another great sale!
