From tinplate to timeless Hornby classics, we can preserve the magic of your model railway

Model railways have captured the imagination of children and adults ever since the hobby first began in the mid-19th century.

In those early days, model railways came in the shape of wooden toys, before advances in technology saw them replaced by tinplate and diecast models by manufacturers such as Hornby, Tri-ang and Bassett-Lowke to name just a few.

Established in 1958, our auction house has been trusted to value and sell thousands of model trains in our specialist model railway auctions for decades. We hold six specialist model railway auctions every year, and each one often contains items from most of the most well-known manufacturers – including Airfix, Bachmann, Dapol, Hornby, Lima, Rivarossi, Slaters and Wrenn.

We also have a detailed listing of individual model locomotives, OO-gauge layouts and rolling stock from a wide range of manufacturers including European and USA HO gauge, as well as British pattern items.

If you have any vintage train sets for sale or model railway layouts to be valued, our team of experts will happily offer free advice to all UK residents. We also arrange sales by private treaty and can carry out valuations for probate or insurance purposes for a small fee.

What type of model railways are popular?

Model railway values obviously vary depending on the size of the collection and the number of locomotives and accessories which make up the toy train collection.

However, because model railways are a hobby for modellers and collectors alike, even damaged old trains, N gauge locomotives and model railways accessories often fetch more than you might expect in our model railways auction. This is probably because they can be used as spares or lovingly restored.

In our experience, it is always worth getting in touch to get an accurate valuation or find out the sort of prices which have been achieved for similar items in toy train auctions we have previously held.

If you want to source rare model railway items for sale, our team of experts can use their extensive connections to aid your search.
