Ancient coins are considered by collectors to be miniature precious works of art – a reflection of fascinating eras and historic rulers.
For ancient coin buyers, each ancient coin is an interesting artefact with a special story dating back thousands of years.
If you want to sell ancient coins you’ve inherited or acquired, Warwick & Warwick can provide free advice about how to achieve the best possible realisation.
Established in 1958, we are distinguished members of the British Numismatic Trade Association and are proud to be a leading UK provider of ancient coin valuations.
Our experts have prepared thousands of ancient coins for sale and specialise in staging ancient coin auctions, which regularly attract buyers and private collectors from around the world.
If you’re thinking of buying or selling ancient coins, our experts can help you fully understand this unique and intimate market – no matter what form or denomination captures your interest.
The first ancient coins were ‘tokens’ or ‘discs’ which were made from electrum, an alloy of silver and gold, and they first originated in the 7th Century BC.
Many cultures around the world used these as a form of payment long before the birth of the Roman Empire, which has since become synonymous with the ancient coins depicting its rulers.
Most of the Roman coins found in the UK were struck between 140BC and 390AD and minted predominantly from gold, silver or bronze. Some were cast from orichalcum, a metal with a similar appearance to brass.
