Jaeger Postcards in the May 18 Auction

A further section of the impressive collection of picture postcards, formed by the late Karl Jaeger, is offered in our auction on May 18. Karl collected subject cards and foreign countries, specialising in quality cards of artistic merit or demonstrating interesting social history. May’s offering is rich in foreign countries. There are 3 Chinese collections on offer and these cards below are typical.

 

There are 6 collections of Japan on offer, rich in both topos and art cards.

 

Europe is well represented by collections of individual countries. France includes this card advertising a bicycle manufacturer.

 

This Barnum & Bailey circus vignette is part of a range of 84 German cards estimated at £400.

 

A substantial USA collection, estimated at £320, includes this animated view of New York City.

 

Karl Jaeger’s subject cards include 2 fine collections of political satire, including an impressive collection of Boer War anti-British satire.
