A rare World War 1 Memorial Plaque named to Georgina Drysdale is offered in our 21st April 2021 medal and militaria auction with an estimate of £5000.
Georgina Drsydale a Telephonist with WRNS, service number G/668, died in service on 23rd November 1918 aged 19, possibly from influenza, while serving at HMS Satellite. She is buried in Preston Cemetery, North Shields. HMS Satellite was a RNR drill ship and shore establishment on the River Tyne. She enlisted on 22nd April 1918, initially as a Clerk, but later a Telephonist and her record is marked “Immobile” indicating she could not be posted away from her home area. She is the only woman listed in the Tynemouth Roll of Honour for WW1.
There were approximately only 600 “She Died” plaques issued in World War 1 and there are only 27 to WRNS.
