Upon the tidal wave of recent weather events comes another great stamp sale for Warwick and Warwick!
As usual, we got up and running with the miscellaneous world collections, with British Commonwealth well-presented and many performing well above estimate. Lot 5, a ring binder of GB and BC miscellaneous, had strong QV-KEVII Army Officials ovpts and War Tax stamps from around the commonwealth, achieving a hammer price of £875 – over three times its estimate. Multi box lots also had a great deal of interest; lots 69 and 22 finishing greatly overestimate after fierce bidding wars.
Great Britian continued its strong performance, with Queen Victoria Surface-printed and covers stealing the show. Lot 261 consisted of a used range of pairs with various postmarks, including 1855-57 4d range pairs (x9) and 1865-67 wmk Large Garter 4d pl.8 strip of 3, with many more to speak of. Continuing the theme of pairs, lot 265 included a range of covers with 1855-57 4d pair on cover to Hamburg, 6d lilac pair to Philadelphia, and 1862-4 1/- pair sent via Bordeaux, with a hammer price twice above its estimate.
Australia had a particularly good showing, with several lots being heavily bid on. Lot 112 was a true standout; 5 stock book collection of 1913-1958 M/UM, including 1913-14 1d in blocks of 6, 1931 Smith's Flight 3d block of 20, 1934 Victoria set in marginal blocks of 4, with many more sets, blocks, flaws, and inverted watermarks.
