With Halloween creeping its way into view, Warwick and Warwick was once again witness to another spine-tinglingly spooktacular auction.

It was British Commonwealth that stole the show in last Wednesday’s auction with some real individual standouts. Three seemingly UM albums of Malayan States in lot 103 reached double its estimate at £6000 – an unsurprising amount with the number of viewers it received. After some fierce rounds of bidding, a fine collection of Straits Settlements at lot 100 reached a hammer price of £3200; a single seemingly UM album of North Borneo at lot 113 hitting a staggering £4100 for the fine collection; and another seemingly UM album collection of Sarawak at lot 121, with many complete sets, fetching an impressive £2200 – three times above its original estimate.

As always, Great Britain sold very well. Lot 311, a 1876-81 Telegraph £5 orange, fine used with two single strikes of 'STOCK EXCHANGE GLASGOW/0C 1/81' cds attracted some notable attention, along with lot 310, a fine collection of UM postage dues from 1914 to 1994, finishing well above estimate at £550. And finally, lot 214, the ever-sought-after 1913 Waterlow Seahorse £1 green mint, achieving a notable hammer of £700.

Along with the usual standouts at our auctions, last week was a great chance to acquire some more uncommon pieces of philately. Lots 95 and 92 saw Gibraltar 1973 125th Anniv. Gibraltar Skull Discovery 4p displaying error 'Gold (Gibraltar) Omitted' achieve a final price of £1150 for the single UM example and a 3rd December 1902 KEVII high value (used for 2/- to £1 values, undenominated) master die proof in black on glazed card. And to round out this months report, we look to lot 6, a fine collection of Zeppelin flown covers and cards and postcards depicting Zeppelins from Brazil to Germany, Hungary to Czechoslovakia, and Germany to the USA attracting a fine amount of interest.
And thus marks another varied and successful sale for our vendors, bidders and us here at Warwick & Warwick. For updates on all future sales, keep an eye on our website and follow us on instagram and facebook!
