1st July Philatelic Auction Report

Though she be but little, she is fierce.’ – an eloquent summation of our most recent stamp auction from the ever articulate William Shakespeare.

As usual, the miscellaneous collections achieved high prices, with lot 8 exemplifying this off the bat! A large and mixed accumulation with over 30 boxes worth of world material; this lot attracted much attention and sold after much bidding for a hammer price of £975.

Individual foreign countries also sold well, with highlights including lot 65, a collection of Hungary covering the early to middle period. With many better sets and issues presented throughout, there was plenty of interest for our bidders to sink their teeth into, with bidding culminating with a final hammer price of £975.

From Victoria to Charlie, the British collections and individual items were ever popular! Starting from the beginning (a VERY good place to start) we see lot 101, a fine, unused example of the iconic 1840 1d black. This example was excitingly found with much of its original gum, a very rare sight indeed! The fine gum, and its beautiful margin at foot, obviously tempted out the astute collectors and each being keen to call this attractive piece theirs, bid the lot up to an exceptional hammer price of £1000! Moving through the Kings, Elizabeth and later decimal issues similar, we saw a similar level of interest and bidding with ranges of errors and shades performing notably well.

Thank you very much for joining us today, it was a joy as ever to take part in, and we look forward to welcoming you back next month.
