Another successful stamp sale for us here at Warwick and Warwick with active bidding and high prices achieved throughout.
The first lot of the sale set the tempo with book and internet bidders a-plenty. A collection of British Africa in an old Scott album ranging from Queen Victoria to King George V with a lovely range of early issues and high values, it was originally estimated at £3,800 and sold for a wonderful £4,500.
Lot number 171, a small Mauritius selection housed on a single album page with early values to 1/-, exceeded all of our expectations. With an estimate of £700, after a landslide of bids, the lot eventually sold for a whopping £3,300. Over four times the original estimate!
Our collections of Australia and Australian States all sold well. The highlight of which was lot 126, a Queen Victoria collection of Australian States on album leaves with good ranges from New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and West Australia. The lot sold for £1,950 against an estimate of £600 – a very healthy result indeed.
The United States of America also saw competitive bidding with lot 258 an exceptional collection of early issues selling for £4,100 and lot 262 a collection of pre-cancels selling for £525.
