As we fast approach the winter months, the nights are drawing in, and the suns warmth has seemingly been robbed from us over night, things are starting to look icy… but here at Warwick & Warwick the glowing results of the October stamp auction have been keeping the fire burning and our valuers nice and toasty!
From the first issues of Queen Victoria, through to the modern decimal issues it was the Great British stamps that really fanned these flames. In particular, it was lot 233 that burned the brightest. A collection ranging Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II it was full of interesting and valuable issues. The stand out of which being a large study of 1d blacks, 140 in total, ranging plate 1a/b to plate 11. After a rapid flurry of bids the collection eventually sold for £10,000 above the original estimate for a whopping hammer price of £18,000!
The British Commonwealth and the Foreign countries lots kept the fires stoked and the embers burning bright with the world miscellaneous lots, Hong Kong, China, Italy and Netherlands all selling well.
