Remember, remember the 5th of November...
Our philatelic auction went off with a bang on Wednesday with explosive, high-flying bidding throughout!

The highlight of the sale was most definitely the specialised Jane Moubray RDP Hon FRPSL FRPSC collection of Canada, of which a digitised archive can be found here. Beginning with a selection of pre-stamp mail, the collection was strong in the early Colony of Canada issues, the Large and Small Queens, the Jubilee and Maple Leaf issues, the Admirals including postal rates, railway postal stationery, as well as revenues. Broken down into 36 lots, the collection attracted bidders from across the globe, resulting in an exceptional sale with no lots going unsold and a remarkable total hammer price of over £25,000, well above the original estimate!
The selection of British Africa items, including scarce early high values, flaws, varieties, and a particularly fine selection of Specimens, also saw considerable success during the auction. Most notably, the mint Kenya, Uganda, and Tanganyika 1922-7 £100 red and black overprinted ‘SPECIMEN’, a scarce and attractive item which made £1550 on the day.

Great Britain was as popular as ever, commanding high prices across the spectrum, from the mixed collections to the specialised items! Highlights include: an unused 1d black, plate 6, lettered ‘NI’, with clear margins all around, selling for £1200; an embossed 1/- in a block of four, cut square, and neatly cancelled with 2 clean strikes of the Dublin 188 numeral cancel which made £450; and 1d red-brown in a block of four with each stamp being very finely struck with clear Maltese Cross numeral 12 cancel in black with a hammer price of £370.

Thank you to our customers for sparking so much excitement this bonfire night!
