The current COVID-19 heath crisis has led many companies to change their practices to bring them into line with the current government safety guidelines. So, for the safety of our customers and our staff, our 17 June 2020 Banknotes sale was a closed-door auction, with no room bidders allowed.
There was still plenty of interest in the auction however with a plethora of book bids and a great number of bidders on the telephone.
We began with the hammered British coins section.
Highlights include this William I PAXS penny realised £630, this Edward III fourth coinage treaty period quarter noble sold for £630 and this Cnut short cross penny achieved £324.
Moving on to the British milled section this 1692/2 inverted crown realised £468.
This 1787 guinea sold for £660 and this 1788 guinea achieved £516.
This 1847 Gothic crown realised a massive £2,160 and this 1860 penny sold for £312.
There was an excellent range of medallic issues offered in this sale.
Highlights included this 1662 Marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza silver commemorative issue which achieved £144.
This 1897 Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria gold commemorative issue realised £516 and this 1931 Earl of Willingdon silver medal sold for £204.
