Coins, Medals, Militaria and Banknotes Auction Report 10th December 2025

The last sale of the year saw some jolly bidding. It seemed everyone was making the most of bidding and buying their new ‘toys’ before a well-earned yule tide rest.

Opening our report with our banknote section, starting with lot 49, J.S. Bradbury. 1914 £1 Dot Type 2 B/28 12170 very fine. (Duggleby T3) achieved an impressive hammer price of £310!

Lot 95 India. 1917-30 issue. Government of India, 5 rupees H/93 672982 very fine. (Krause 4) sold for £250.

Our final mention for banknotes is lot 115 Seychelles. Pair of Government of Seychelles 5 rupees with 1928 (6 Nov) A/1 15017 fair and 1934 (5 Oct) A/1 21005 fine, sold for a total of £250!

     

Moving on to our ancient coin section of the sale, we had a fantastic collection, our first mention is lot 170 Ancient Greece, Thrace, Koson. Circa mid-first century BCE gold stater, 8.35g, obverse 3 togate figures advancing left, the first and third carrying an axe over left shoulder, reverse eagle standing left of sceptre holding wreath in one claw, very fine. Unknown dynast, possibly Scythian whose coinage seems to be inspired by silver denari issued in 54 BCE by M. Junius Brutus, achieved a final hammer price of £1500!

Lot 189 Ancient Greece, Ionia, Herakleia ad Latmon. Circa 2nd century BCE silver tetradrachm, 16.68g, obverse head of Athena right wearing helmet, reverse club in oak wreath, Nike standing left between two monograms, very fine, sold after some fierce bidding for a grand total of £1200!

Lot 202 Ancient Greece, Carthage, Zeugitana. 320-310 BCE electrum stater, 7.36g, obverse head of Tanit left, reverse horse standing right, fine, sold for £1800.

Lot 212 Ancient Greece, Macedonian, Alexander III, The Great. 336-323 BCE gold stater, 8.53g, obverse Bust of Athena right in Corinthian helmet with serpent, reverse Nike standing left holding wreath, good fine, with James Murphey ticket, after competitive bidding sold for £2400!

Lot 214 Ancient Greece, Thrace, Lysimachos. Circa 305-281 BCE gold stater, 8.44g, obverse head of Alexander right with horns of Ammon, reverse Athena enthroned right, Nike crowning King's name, very fine, which also attracted many bidders sold for a total of £2100!

Our final mention of our ancient coins section is lot 277 Ancient India, Kushan, Vasudeva. 192-225 CE gold stater, 7.81g, obverse king standing left with sword and trident by altar, reverse Siva facing, bull left, good fine, achieved a final hammer price of £925!

Moving on to our gold section, starting with lot 433 East Caribbean States. 2002 $10 'Golden Jubilee Monarchs' boxed gold proofs set of 5 FDC, in Westminster display case. Edition 041/100, our second highest selling lot which achieved a final hammer price of £13000!

   

Our final mention and also our highest selling item, lot 551 1966 'Prime Ministers of Great Britain' proof cased set of 6 22ct medallic issues FDC odd mark to fields, produced by Feuchtwanger of London, weight 35.17g each, with Robert Walpole 1676 - 1745, Pitt The Elder 1708 - 1778, Pitt The Younger 1759 - 1806, Benjamin Disraeli 1804 - 1881, William Gladstone 1809 - 1898 and Winston Churchill 1874 - 1965, in 'Medallioners' padded case, achieved a grand total of £20000!

    

Overall, the auction was a huge success with many unique and interesting lots.
