Coins, Medals, Militaria and Banknotes Auction Report 16th August 2023

  

Our 16th August 2023 Coins, Medals, Militaria and Banknotes Auction had some very interesting lots and strong live bidding through www.easyliveauction.com plus commission and telephone bids.

The English banknote section received great interest with highlights including Lot 229, a Somerset £5 with missing signature, estimates at £100 and sold for £320. In the world banknotes section Lot 233, a wide-ranging accumulation in plastic wallets including Channel Islands, China, England, France, India, Ireland, Peru, Rhodesia, Scotland, etc. had an estimate of £975 and sold for a fantastic £2,500.

         

Moving on to the coins section, hammered coins attracted large interest with Lot 376 an Edward III fourth coinage noble, sold for £2,600. Lot 379 an Edward VI fine silver issue 1551 crown estimated at £750 sold for £1,550. Lot 400 a 1691 crown with estimate of £1,500, sold for £2,700.

         

Lot 455 a 1847 Gothic crown, graded as about uncirculated, estimated at £5,500 sold for a brilliant £12,000!

The gold section sold well, which was expected with Lot 666 a 2008 Emblems of Britain and Royal Shield of Arms cased proof set with an estimate of £6,000 and sold for £6,250. Lot 629 a 2000 £5, £2, sovereign and half sovereign proof cased set of 4 which had an estimate of £2,500 and sold for £2,800.

From our world coins section Lot 979 Scotland. James VI 8th coinage 30 shillings, king on horseback wearing Scottish crown thistle on the housings, reverse shield with Scottish arms estimated at £100 sold for £110.

Overall, the sale was a great success with much interest and lively bidding throughout.
