Coins, Medals, Militaria and Banknotes Auction Report 20th August 2025

20th August 2025 Coins, Medals, Militaria and Banknotes Auction had some very interesting lots and strong live bidding through www.easyliveauction.com, plus commission and telephone bids.

The Medals and Militaria section had performed extremely well, our first mention is lot 12, featuring 1854 Crimea Medal range, some reproductions noted with: 3 clasp Balakava, Inkermann, Sebastopol to Set t Wm Topham 5th D., 3 clasp Alma, Inkermann, Sebastopol to Jas Carty 88th Regt. 2 clasp Inkermann, Sebastolpol to S.J. Horne. 2nd Dragns., same to John Borlace. Boatsn 3 C., Alma, Sebastopol to T. Courtenay. Coldstream Gds., plus various single clasp (5), Turkish Crimea (4), French Legion of Honour, etc. This lot attracted fierce bidding and achieved a final hammer price of £2,000!

Next, we have lot 40 from the Howard family, which contained a more unique item, the Caterpillar Club badge, in gold with Ruby eyes, extremely fine, engraved to Sgt. S.T. Also included in lot 40 are, QSA with 4 clasp Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 to 21165 Tpr: F.W. Howard. 76th Coy Imp: Yeo. George V Coronation Medal to P.C. A. Howard., also includes WWI silver wound badge reverse marked 491183, photos, etc. This lot achieved a hammer price of £1,350.

Lot 41 spotlighted a WWII Military Cross group of 7 to Lt. John McKenzie Porter of the 2nd Battalion The Cameronians, Scottish Rifles, MC reverse is marked 1943 (unnamed), 1939-45, Africa, Italy stars, Defence Medal and BWM, Territorial Efficiency Medal to Lt. J. McK. Porter. M.C. Cameronians, swing mounted as worn, plus swing mounted miniatures, Cameronians cap badge and patch with moto mutare vel timere sperno. Plus set of swing mounted miniatures with 1939-45, Atlantic, France and Germany stars, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, War Medal, QEII silver Jubilee Medal and Soviet 40th Anniversary Medal, With copied recommendation for MC, sold for a respectable £1,250. Moving on to our banknotes, we had some interesting pieces that attracted very competitive bidding, starting with lot 108, J.S. Bradbury. 10/- Dardanelles black Overprint Z/6 093078, which sold for an impressive hammer price of £875!

Next, we have lot 130 was a P.S. Beale consecutive pair of white £5 S14 054405 to ...406, plus Peppiatt £100 (2) and £50 forgeries, achieved a hammer price of £430.

  

Lot 147 is our next mention, D.H.F. Somerset. Experimental Issue £1 MN03 979744, sold for a staggering £2,500!

Moving on to the coin section of the sale, we had some fantastic Gothic Crowns with lot 591, a 1847 Gothic crown, undecimo edge, extremely fine, selling for a final hammer price of £4,300!

Lot 592, another 1847 Gothic crown, undecimo edge, dark blue toning to obverse, near extremely fine, sold for a total of £2,500.

Our last mention and our highest-selling item of the auction, lot 706, a Kuwait 1960 3 dinars (also known as a sovereign) pattern issue. A rare coin with only a handful being made and scarcely available through auction, sold for a grand total of £10,000!

Overall, the auction was a huge success with many unique and interesting lots.
