The July stamp auction included a substantial China collection from Large & Small Dragons through to the Peoples Republic. Although demand for China has fallen back a little in recent months, the collection still realised £15,000.
Also in the foreign section of the auction, an ‘exceptional and intact, original collection’ of French Colonies sold for £15,000.
Great Britain
A collection of 1864-79 1d red imprimaturs, with plate numbers from 72 to 219 were offered as individual stamps in the auction. The lots sold on average for around £130 per stamp.
A pair of 1883-4 10/- on blued paper and each with a fine cancel sold for £3,120 & £2,880.
An accumulation of British pre-stamp entires including ship letters, Scottish, Bishop Marks, also early stamped covers including Spoon cancels, and much else, inevitably attracted a lot of interest. Offered at £250, the lot achieved £1,440
British Colonies
A mint collection of India Convention & Feudatory States including many of the top values reached £4,080
A Rhodesia collection including ‘Double Heads’ to 10/- plus some shades sold for £2,220.
An unusual collection of Bechuanaland Revenues from Queen Victoria to King George V sold for £1,080.
