Warwick and Warwick Cigarette Card Auction Report 20th July 2016

The cigarette card sale contained a large selection of collections and accumulations. These achieved mixed results although many collections still achieved figures in excess of their estimates.  A lot containing more valuable part sets and type cards by Ray, Richmond, S & C, Smith and others estimated at £350 realised £620. A collection of complete sets by Ogden, Phillips, Sinclair, Thomson and many others estimated at £300 realised over £540, a collection of complete sets by Carreras, Churchman, Lloyd, L & B, Wills etc estimated at £300 realised £420 and a collection including complete and part sets by E.R.B., Gallaher, Smith, Wix and others estimated at £180 realised £620.

 

Collections by individual manufacturers achieved strong results with a L & B collection estimated £280 realising £310, an Ogden’s collection with complete and part sets estimated £260 made £390, a collection of Phillips complete and part sets in albums estimated £300 realised over £410, a Player collection estimated at £230 realised £365 and a collection of Wills sets and part sets in albums estimated at £300 making over £530.

 

The sale contained a strong selection of individual British sets, with many achieving excellent prices. Some of the most notable results include a Co-Operative Wholesale Society Poultry set estimated at £120 realising £188, a Player Old England’s Defenders set estimated £200 made over £270 despite No.1 having a crease, a Player Military Series set estimated £250 achieved £425, a Salmon & Gluckstein Shakespearian Series set estimated at £100 made over £330 despite 2 cards having corner creases, a Smith Football Club Colours set estimated £250 made £354, a Wix Kensitas flowers Second Series L set estimated at £120 realised nearly £180 and a Woods Modern Motor Cars set estimated at £100 realised £130.

 

There was an excellent array of trade card lots in the sale with several mixed lots achieving superb results. A mixed collection of modern sets by Dandy Gum, Monty Gum, Topps and others estimated £160 realised nearly £800. An unsorted lot containing modern trade sets, magazines and free gifts estimated at £80 realised over £760, a collection of Monty Gum sets including Beat Series, International Football Teams, Kung Fu, Punk, UFO and many others estimated £250 realised over £940 and a Topps collection of football sets and others estimated at £400 realised over £1,000.

 

Our next auction is on 21th September 2016. We will be offering a selection of accumulations and individual cigarette card sets. There will also be a good trade card section with several collections on offer as well as some individual sets.
