Warwick and Warwick Cigarette Card Auction Report 21st September 2016

The cigarette card sale offered a good range of collections and accumulations. A large selection of these achieved figures well in excess of their estimates. The opening lot contained a range of more valuable type cards by Cope, Millhoff, Phillips, Taddy, Wills. It was estimated at £350 and realised £915. A collection of complete sets by Adkin, Ardath, L & B, Ogden, Wills and many others estimated at £350 realised £590. A collection of complete sets by Churchman, L & B, Wills, BAT etc, estimated at £300, realised over £540 and a collection including complete and part sets, including many football sets by Carreras, Ogden, Sinclair, Barratt, Chix and others, estimated at £250, realised over £550.

 

Collections by individual manufacturers achieved strong results, the highlights being, an L & B collection estimated £150 realising more than £220 and an Ogden collection with several Boy Scout sets estimated £100 realising £295.

 

The sale contained a strong selection of individual British sets, with many achieving excellent prices. Some of the most notable results included a Carreras Women On War Work set, estimated at £80, which realised £200, a Cope’s Golfers part set of 11 cards, estimated £180, which made over £280 despite 2 having faults, an E.R.B. Flags Of All Nations 1st Series set, estimated £50, which realised £94, an Ogden Pugilists & Wrestlers 1st Series set, estimated £120, which achieved £260, a Wills Scissors Indian Regiments Series set, estimated at £90, which made over £165 despite 2 cards having small creases, an Allen & Ginter Flags Of All Nations set, estimated  £160, which made over £300 and a B.A.T. Beauties, Water Girls set, estimated £70, which realised £88 despite one being creased.

 

There was a nice selection of trade card lots in the sale, with mixed lots achieving superb results. A large collection in 4 boxes containing a good selection of A. & B.C. and Topps football cards realised over £1650. A collection of loose, part sets by A. & B.C., Anglo Confectionery, Barratt, Topps, Typhoo and others, estimated at £80, realised over £210 and a mixed collection of A. & B.C., Barratt, Calvert and others, estimated £70, realised over £140. Several individual sets also performed well with a Brooke Bond South Africa Wild Van Afrika bilingual set, estimated £60, realising £77 and a Fry Days Of Wellington, estimated £70, realising £112.

Our next auction is on 16th November 2016. We will be offering a selection of accumulations and individual cigarette card sets. There will also be a good trade card section with several collections on offer as well as some individual sets.
