Top quality topographicals and social hisory dominated Warwick and Warwick’s 21 November auction and, as a result, high realisations were achieved. Most of the lots on offer were offered as county ranges and as such it is difficult to judge the results achieved compared with the contents of the lots on offer.
However Hampshire was very popular and a collection of 209 RPs by the publisher Arnott realsed £2400
and 189 of the same county, by Willstead, achieved £1620
An attractive collection of Lincolnshire contained 280 cards and was estimated at £950. It made £2340. A London and suburbs collection of 400 was estimated at £775 and finally sold for £2100, after intense bidding and 200 Essex, estimated £575, realised £1980.
Of the individual cards, the South Cerney (Glos) station interior RP view by REW, with 2 steam trains at the platforms, realised £78.
Foreign Countries included ever popular China, here a collection of 250, estimated £500, made £1620.
A collection of 93 early court-size vignette cards of Hong Kong was described as rare and the £500 esimate was quickly exceeded by the realisation of £2880. Still in Hong Kong, 120 cards published by The Hong Kong Pictorial Postcard Co made £1560 and 79 cards published by Graca made £1140.
Amongst the subjects, artist-drawn cards were lack-lustre, but Suffragettes, shipping, railways, comic, aviation, military and silks were all popular.
