18th June 2025 Coins, Medals, Militaria and Banknotes Auction had some very interesting lots and strong live bidding through www.easyliveauction.com plus commission and telephone bids.
The Medals and Militaria section had a unique range this sale, our first mention is lot 14, an 1815 Waterloo Medal to Thomas Surrey 2nd Batt. Coldstream Gds. Achieving a hammer price of £2,000!
Next, our highest selling item for this section, lot 53, Military Medal (1938-48) to Ch.X.109660 W. Macdonald. Mne. R.M., MacDonald was awarded the Military Medal for actions that took place before the 4th Special Service Brigade was attached to the 6th Airborne Division. 'Throughout the assault on Port-en-Bessin on 7th June Marine MacDonald was absolutely fearless. As the Troop Commander's runner, he time and time again crossed open ground under close range enemy automatic fire, carrying messages and orders of vital importance. By his gallant and courageous conduct, he played a major part during the closing stages of the successful assault on the port. His devotion to duty was quite exceptional and a most inspiring example to his comrades.' The medal of this heroic Marine sold for an amazing £6,500!
For our edged weapons lot 65 contained a rare German Railway Protection dagger with scabbard and knot, blade has light marks otherwise extremely fine, ricasso marked with Carl Eickhorn, Solingen squirrel holding sword TM, this rarity achieved an impressive hammer price of £2,500.
Another unique lot was lot 66, an NPEA Student dagger with metal scabbard, blade acid etched "Mehr sein als scheinen", reverse ricasso “Karl Burgsmüller, Berlin Charlottenburg 5”, light pitting to blade otherwise extremely fine, guard slightly loose and marked N81, pommel marked N.P.E.A Naumburg Ostern 1937 after fierce bidding sold for a grand total of £2,000.
From our Banknotes section lot 136 featured a J.S. Bradbury £1 dot N/19 004376 very fine. (Duggleby T3) achieved a total hammer price of £350
Lot 211 was a Jamaica Canadian Bank of Commerce 1921 (1st March) £5 uniface proofs of obverse extremely fine and reverse good extremely fine on cards without serial numbers or signatures. (Krause S152p). This lot sold for £575
From Turkey State Notes of the Ministry of Finance we had lot 224a, Law of 4th February AH1332. 1916-17 (4 Feb) 25 Livres M012600 very fine. (Krause 105) sold for £550.
Moving on to the coin section of the sale, with our first mention and highest selling item of the auction, lot 390, an 1826 crown proof FDC sold for a staggering £10,500!
Our next mention is lot 541, a 2022 Memorial 1926-2022 5oz boxed gold proof £500 FDC, joins our previous mention for 1st place with a grand total of £10,500!
A Sir Winston Churchill 22ct gold medallic boxed commemorative with certificate No.701, weight 33.69g, uncirculated, sold for £2,000 and was lot 644.
Our final mention is lot 710, German states collection in coin tray, generally very fine, including Ansbach thaler 1777, Frankfurt 2 gulden 1847, thaler 1796, 1860, 2 thaler 1841, Lubeck 16 schilling 1752, 32 schilling 1732, 1752, 48 schilling 1752 (2), Hamburg 32 schill 1759, Mainz thaler 1765, Mecklenburg 32 schillinge 1764, Nuremberg thaler 1757, The Palatinate thaler 1771, Sachen taler 1598, 1608, Saxony thaler 1631, 1 mark 1775 and Schwarzburg-Sondershausen 2 thaler 1845. Qty 25, after very competitive bidding, achieved a final hammer price of £2,600!
