Wednesday 7th December - The Final Philatelic auction of 2022

22nd December 2008

Warwick and Warwick’s final Philatelic Auction of the calendar year offered collectors plenty of opportunities to acquire rare, valuable and interesting items, with some outstanding collections going under the hammer.

Amongst a particularly strong Great Britain section this month was an excellent British and Irish Postal History collection being offered for sale, which was a roaring success, with every lot selling in excess of its estimate. The total hammer price achieved was over £5,800 against a total auction estimate of just under £2,500.

Also in the Great Britain section was Lot 324, a Penny Black mint strip of three, which sold for a hammer price of £5,250.

Other highlights included:

A superb Airmails collection including many Zeppelin-related covers in two volumes performed particularly strongly, selling for £1,350 which was many times its original estimate.

A 1935 Silver Jubilee omnibus complete less Egypt, in unmounted mint condition, achieved a hammer price of £750.

Lot 192, the seldom-seen unmounted mint 1961 St. Helena Tristan Relief overprint set achieved a hammer price of £2,100.
