Major Matchbox collection to be auctioned by Warwick & Warwick on the 18th September 2019

12th September 2019

One of the most comprehensive Matchbox Superfast collections will feature in the Wednesday 18th September Collectables auction at Warwick & Warwick auctioneers. Over 75 Matchbox lots, many mint and boxed, are available to suit all collectors’ budgets.

Matchbox Superfast celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, having been launched in 1969 to compete with Mattel Hot Wheels. The first three Superfast cars were the BMC Pininfarina No. 56, a concept car sadly not produced by BMC, Lotus Europa No. 5 and the Lamborghini Marzal No. 20.

The lots offered for sale cover the Superfast 1-75 range from the 1969 introduction through to the 1980s, featuring a variety of box styles and blister packs including the 1976 Two Packs range that often featured unique colour versions of well-known 1-75 cars. Lot 803 includes catalogues dating from 1969 to 1984 including international editions.
